As temperatures decrease and daylight hours are reduced, turf physiology slows down and the growth rate decreases. Photosynthesis also slows down. This leads to a reduction in chlorophyll production and a change in the colour of the turf.
During periods of cooler temperatures, turfgrass will lose its natural green colour. However, the use of liquid fertilisers and pigments can be employed to enhance the colour of turfgrass during these conditions.
